Mr Ward began drumming in his home town of Banbridge, Northern Ireland, and was taught by Frank Gibson and the late Bobby Rae. He went on to play with Cullybackey, Ballycoan and Dromara before moving to Scotland in 1980 to play with the legendary Alex Duthart in the Shotts and Dykehead and British Caledonia Airways Pipe Bands, respectively. Eric performed in Duthart’s drum corps until his untimely passing in 1986. Mr Ward was then appointed Leading Drummer of the B-Cal band and led the drum corps to win every major championship and the Champion of Champions.
In 1996, Eric took the position of Leading Drummer with Strathclyde Police Pipe Band and won every major Championship again, as well as both MSR and Medley sections at the World Pipe Band Championships.
Mr Ward is a world renown solo drummer and a consistent feature in the World Solo Drumming final finishing runner-up on several occasions. With his unique musical style and approach, Eric has travelled the world providing educational seminars and workshops.
