Jim Kilpatrick's tuning blocks for pipe band snares are designed to streamline drum tuning.

Find your preferred pitch; then, match the distance between the batter hoop and the suspension ring to a height/number on the block. Next time you tune, you can quickly approximate the same pitch by matching this distance to the block height/number of that pitch. Tuning blocks are also very useful when tuning a large group of drummers, as everyone can get close to the desired pitch, leaving only fine tuning for the drum sergeant.
